Swift safety is a device designed to be a distress signal disguised as an accessory to any outfit.

Walking home at night, alone, from the grocery store — it’s hard to know when and where something bad will happen, and if something does, there is a time delay between it happening and someone noticing. To minimize that gap, my INFO 200 team and I created “Swift Safety.”

Inspired by our own lives and feeling unsafe walking home from late classes and meetings, we wanted to create a social impact, and won “Best Social Impact” in our class.

What we learned

Working as a team, we took on different roles but consolidated our efforts. As a product manager and designer, my role was to ensure the wireframes looked good and complete a heuristic evaluation, and streamline the process and logistics for designing our device. I also conducted user research and user tests to understand what we would need for our project, and as a team, we drafted a problem statement, user research document, and design specifications.
